For months now I have had a pain in the neck. I can't turn my head without getting a twinge of pain. I told my physical therapist and she did some sort of chiropractic thing that hurt like a mother... I won't be doing that again.
I also get migraines so I wonder if the pain in my brain is not a migraine but a pain from a problem in my spine. I have no idea how I would figure this out.
I know my migraines are usually from not eating at regular hours and not getting enough sleep. I also seem to get them if I grind my teeth in my sleep. I also clench my jaw. As you can see I keep all my stress in my jaw, neck, back, head.
I think I am going to schedule a massage. Try to work off these sore muscles.
I am so tired. I am practically falling asleep at my computer.
Until tomorrow...
I used to get severe "kill me now!" headaches; once it was so devastating that my father took me to the ER. I was convinced I had a brain tumor or something. Turns out that the muscles of my neck and shoulders were in spasm. The doc gave me a strong pain med, a muscle relaxing med, and told me to wet bath towels in the hottest water I could stand, wring them out and then place them on my neck and shoulders. The wet heat, he said, would relax those muscles and, in time, my headache would abate. He was right, but it took a couple of days and a lot of hot, wet towels.
ReplyDeleteThese days they've got moist heating pads available (this was in the early 80s). I bet one of those would work as well as and more easily than heavy wet bath towels. And I think the massage idea is an excellent one.
The whole experience made me very aware of how stress affects my neck and shoulders. After that I made a conscious effort to relax those muscles every time I felt them tightening up. I've never had another headache like that, thank goodness!!
Wishing you the best, Adrienne.
Thanks Wren, I will try the moist heating pad. I will let you know how it goes.
