TRIP-DAY 3

This trip has been a lot of driving. I can't wait for a couple of days when I am not driving almost all day.

This morning I got up and took a shower in the camp showers. This campground is so nice. The bathrooms are clean and the grounds kept very nice. The staff was nice too.

I left that campsite at 8:15 and drove to the Walmart to get a few things and some more water. After leaving the store I started driving to my next location when I looked at the gas gauge. I had four bars going on three bars. I needed to get gas. I was almost to my destination so I continued.

I went to the Minidoka National Historic Site. It was closed but I could still walk around. I got to the main gate and it was freezing a windy. I walked around a bit and then drove to another part but it was starting to rain. I felt I saw enough so it was in to find some gasoline.

I had to drive about 15-20 minutes to get the closest gas station. Once I filled up, off we went to see the Crators of the Moon National Park. By this time, it started to pour. I arrived at the first pull out and hit out with my new yellow boots on, to walk around. The site reminded me of the volcano park in HI I went to. When I got back to the van, I decided this was as good a place as any to make and eat lunch.
Yes, that is snow!

After lunch we went to another pull out and then go to my next camp ground. I'm staying at what id probably a very nice campground but since I am one of two campers, I can only set it has beautiful grass and a lovely stream out back.

I'm so tired. I'm going to sleep.

Until tomorrow...

TRIP- DAY 2

I got up right on time and got going early at 8:15 a.m. . I had to drive around 300 miles till next destination which was Jerome Idaho. I mistakenly thought there was a gas station on the way there and I made it with just a small bit of gas in the tank to the gas station.

After a driving a bit it started to rain and this weird light appeared on my dashboard. It only concerned me because the icon had an exclamation point next to it. In my book an exclamation point means emergency. So I pulled over and called support. My simultaneously texted my cousin and asked her to sis trying to figure out what this light means. Tech support was a bit slow and their first response was "does the van still run"? I told them that yes the van still ran but I'd like to know what the light means. If the engine's going to conk out, it might be helpful to know what the light means. After a little bit of time I was given the answer that the collision sensor is malfunctioning. I also found out that the collision sensor can go off in very heavy rains. Since it was raining that's what did it.

I got back on the road and continued on to my final destination Jerome Idaho. I needed a break at one point and wanted to eat lunch so I stopped and a lovely little museum called California Trail Interpretive Center in Elko, NV. It was a very very cute representation of people coming to CA during the gold rush.

I got back on the road and arrived in my campsite in Jerome later than expected. I had the chili that I made at home for dinner and settled down to watch TV.

I did dump the toilet compartment for the first time. It is a compartment that comes out and I could wheel it to a bathroom toilet and dump it. Fun times in Van life!

Until tomorrow...

THE TRIP STARTED- DAY 1

I woke up early and got straight to work putting thingsd in the van. I got a lot of the moving done last night but because I was emotionally exhausted, I stopped earlier than I wanted to.

Last night when I got into bed, I looked over on Lucky's side and was shocked she wasn't there. I was sad all over again. My sweet baby.

After lugging am hours worth of stuff, I had to clean out the house. This was a task I planned to do yesterday. I checked all the windows and doors, took out the trash, and unplugged things. I was finally ready to go. I could now put the bird in the van. The Bungee cord I brought out was so old it was petrified. I had to get another bungee cord to anchor the birds cage.
I got in the driver's seat and...I had to pee. Ugh. I went to pee and realized I forgot two important things: my toll gizmo and my phone holder.

I was finally off! To the pharmacy to get my prescription that the insurance company forgot to fill. This gave me more practice parking.

Then we were really off. We drove to a location that I knew had easily accessible restrooms. Then the next stop was lunch. I couldn't find a nice park or rest stop so we went to a Target parking lot that was not crowded. It was fine for a quick lunch.
We stopped off at a rest stop to stretch my legs and saw this:
Yes, that is snow!!

I was two hours late to leave and three hours late to the time I said I was going to arrive at the campsite. The owners were very sweet.

I got kind of set up, meditated, had a veggie burger for dinner and now I am relaxing. You could hear a pin drop in the RV park. Except the train that comes by every few hours.

Tomorrow is another travel day. Another 350 miles. Good thing I made some playlists.

Until tomorrow...

A VERY SAD DAY

I'll start off by saying last night Lucky had a very bad night. She has been shivering for about 5 days and then she seemed to be thirsty but didn't want water. She didn't eat and didn't want her nightly treats (something she really enjoyed).

This morning I was taking her to the vet for her travel papers. The vet and I spoke about how she lost 3 lbs in three weeks even though she ate. She seemed very much in pain. The vet and I discussed how taking her on this trip would not be fun for her in this condition. Not to mention what if she got very ill and I was in the middle of nowhere.

So I decided the best course of action was to let her pass on. I told her she was fearless, brave and that I loved her very much. I held her through the whole process of one needle and then the other. She looked so sweet at the end.

I know I did the right thing. My friend heard that I was doing this and she came to the vet office to be with me. The veterinarian staff told me I was a good mommy and I gave Lucky everything any dog could ask for.

Throwback photo
Rest in Peace Lucky 2007-4/23/2024

Once it was over, my friend and I went to my home where my friend cleaned up the dog stuff while I relaxed and got myself together. Today was the day I was getting the van.

My friend drove me to the area and we had a quick bite to eat. Then we went to the van location and aftera LONG wait they spent an hour showing me how to use the van. My friend videoed most of it.

Then I drove home and began packing it. I'm hoping nothing happens to it overnight. I did not pack the electronics, cold food and the bird. I'll do that tomorrow morning. I need to get done sleep.

Until tomorrow...

2 DAYS TO GO

I started out this day taking the bird, Sunny, to the special vet to get a health certificate. I know many people bring their pets to different states but some of the campsites say you have to show a health certificate if asked. I felt it was better safe than sorry. I would be devastated if one of my pets was taken away because I didn't have the certificate. In case you haven't heard avian flu is on the ride.

Sunny dud great at the vets. The guy pried open his beak to check fir upper respiratory infection. He got weighed and the guy said he was a big bird. I asked if he meant fat but no he meant his bone structure is big. Sunny doesn't seem big to me.

Sunny got to try out my latest impulse purchase: a bubble backpack. It is a backpack with a plastic bubble for the bird/cat/animal to look out.
Sunny looks so happy.

Then I ran to get my missed blood test to check my A1C. Results not in yet.

I came home to do some work and some tasks on my list. One of them was to walk down and get a prescription. My doctor called in some gabapentin. I'm not sure I'm going to take it but better to be safe than sorry.  On the way back I stopped to get ice cream but the ice cream parlor was closed. I ended up getting a pint of Ben & Jerry's non-dairy. It was good but not the same. I ate 1/2 pint. I tasted good!

I did a few more tasks after dinner and now I Am going to bed.

Until tomorrow...

3 DAYS TO GO

I spent the day doing so many things. I finished re-uploading music fit some entertainment during the drive.

I made some more of those amazing homemade granola bars. I finished laundry. I deep cleaned the bird cage.

I weeded the backyard (it was beginning to get over run by clover and I planted seeds. I'm growing peas, green beans, yellow squash, lettuce and cucumber. I'll get a tomato plant when I get back. I already have mint, parsley, chives, oregano, rosemary, a strawberry plant and blueberries.

It is three days until I take off on my campervan adventure. I have moments of fear and excitement. I think I will feel better once I get the van.

Until tomorrow...

Saturday, April 20, 2024

4 DAYS TO GO

Today was the date of two events. First the neighborhood watch community block party. I walked Lucky around the corner to see the excitement. Lucky was not impressed.

I decided to attend the vegan pop up for Earth Day.  I was excited when I arrived. DirtyDawg, the new hot dog company was there sells by a vegan hot dog with vegan bacon and mustard, mayo and ketchup. They served it with grilled onions but I took a pass. There was someone selling juice, tostadas, and lasagna. It was a nice sunny day.

I came home and did more packing and cooking. I made chili to freeze for the trip and barbecue tofu for the next few days. Busy day. It will be busier tomorrow.

Until tomorrow...

Friday, April 19, 2024

5 DAYS TO GO

Today was a day for errands. I went to acupuncture and she put needles in my foot. I always feel better after acupuncture. I am not always sure if it works but I always feel better after a session.

It's five days until I leave on my trip. I had so many things to do including getting some labs done. The lab screwed up and didn't take my blood so I have to go back on Monday for blood work.

I found out that the main person at the Arthritis Foundation passed away. It was pretty sudden and sad.

Until tomorrow...

Thursday, April 18, 2024

6 DAYS TO GO

I have plenty to do before I leave on my trip. Lots of work to wrap up, packing and cleaning. Who wants to return to a messy home?

Today I went to my last physical therapy before I leave. My heel and area right in front of my heel are killing me. It hurts to walk so I drove to the appointment. It amazes me how I went from feeling slight pain to horrible pain. I wish I never went to that other physical therapist. He caused the inflammation in my heel by being to hard on my foot. My therapist put some tape on my foot to help support my ankle. I am not sure it helped.

The thing helping the most is soaking my foot in hot water. I make the water as hot as I can stand. I am also taking Advil to try decrease the inflammation. I have 6 days to stop the pain.

Until tomorrow...

ONE WEEK TO GO

With one week to go, the packing and preparing is going full steam. I verified the appointments for the dog and bird. I'm getting them both health certificates before we travel.

I have containers with 1. Fun & Electronics, 2. Camping & Hiking stuff, 3. Pet stuff, and Kitchen stuff. It's hard to tell if I have too much stuff. I'll have to wait until I get the van to see what fits.

My foot problems continue. Some days my heel feels okay and other days it hurts to walk. I'm sleeping in a foot brace at night that keeps my foot perpendicular.

Lucky seemed better today and she ate three single-size applesauce-sized cups of chicken. Last week I was lucky to get her to eat one cup.

Until tomorrow...

Tuesday, April 16, 2024

EIGHT DAYS TO GO

After a long day working, I began packing for my trip. I have things organized by section: kitchen, clothes, pet stuff, etc. It is making it easier to see what I have. This evening I counted out and put my vitamins in ziplock bags. The bottles take up too much space.

My one dilema is whether it will be cold and do I bring my heavy ski coat. Or do I just use my hiking puffy. I don't know.

Until tomorrow...

Monday, April 15, 2024

NINE DAYS TO GO

Nine days to go. My vacation is beckoning.

Today I took Sunny the bird to get his wings, nails and beak trimmed. He needed it a lot. I got a bunch of food to take on the trip.

I finished invoicing my client tonight, before I leave.

Today I dealt with the insurance-company-who-must-not-be-named. I was told to call a week after to get a vacation override. Did you think this was going to be easy? Then you'd be wrong. Five phone calls later it was the end of the day and I was told to call back tomorrow.

Until tomorrow...

KID GOT FOOD POISONING OR STOMACH FLU

First thing this morning I got the call from my ex-foster kid. He was ill all night.

Last night after getting home from the train, he ordered food to be delivered. About 4 hours later he was super ill.

He didn't know what to do because this was his first time being ill. I had many phone calls helping talk him through. He wanted to go to the hospital but no one could take him. I'm sure he will be fine.

I invoices all my clients. It was hours of work. Each time I tell myself I won't let it go this long but then I get busy and forget.

Until tomorrow...

MY VISITOR LEFT TODAY

After breakfast, I (we) cut up apples and bananas to put in the dehydrator for a delicious and healthy snack on my trip. I think I was more excited about it than he was.

Then we went to the store for containers. I decided after watching some videos, I want some of my stuff in containers in the van. Last thing you want is for your items to roll around while you drive.

When we got home, we played a game and then he asked me to drive him to another store. I did but I wished he had asked sooner because we drove back to the same area. Such a waste of gas! Plus they didn't have what he wanted. I picked up some snacks for my trip.

Then it was time for him to catch the bus. He only stayed one night this time because I had work to finish before I leave. He got on the bus with no issues except he didn't bring appropriate clothes and he was wet and cold. You can tell kids but they need to learn on their own.

Until tomorrow...

I HAVE A VISITOR

My ex-foster kid arrived this evening. This was his first time taking both a bus and train to get here. I drove down to the bus station and picked him up.

We had a nice dinner of homemade vegan pizza. He says "it's actually pretty good". This time I bought the vegan pepperoni. He said "it tastes like the real thing ". Great praise.

We watched some TV before hitting the hay.

Until tomorrow...

Thursday, April 11, 2024

VISITOR TOMORROW

Tomorrow my ex-foster kid is visiting for a night. I had to order some food to be delivered. My ex-foster kid eats a lot of food.

I had acupuncture to help with pain and to relax before the visit.

Until tomorrow...

WEIRD DAY

Today was a weird day. After working a bit, I took Lucky on a car ride to the pet food store. We got some containers of dog food. I bought some last week but I bought the wrong flavor and she got a bit sick. I may try them again this week.

Then after working a bit more, I got a call that my taxes are complete. Just in time to make my IRA contributions.

Hours later my ex-foster kid called to say someone he knew passed away. I think it was his first person who died. He was very upset. We all have to go through our first death. I think it is part of life to learn how to work through your grief and trauma.

Until tomorrow...

SECOND ARTHRITIS MEETING MISHAP

Today was our arthritis meeting. I was early to the meeting so I could set it up. I looked and looked for my link as a facilitator but no luck. I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to log on does the facilitator then I went on as a participant. Turns out in the past couple weeks another member took the training to also be a facilitator. She figured out how to go on and host the meeting and then I went in as a participant.

We had a good meeting where people shared ideas of different tools to open jars and cans. It was very enlightening.

After the meeting the other facilitator and I looked at the correspondence and found out that somehow or another my email got switched with someone else's and that person is probably getting my invitations. So that's why last time and this time I was not able to log in and be the facilitator.

FINISHED A PROJECT

I am so happy! I finished one more big project for work. These projects are behind schedule but I'm getting them done before my trip.

Tonight I watched some videos of my camper van in the cold weather. It made me feel more confident about camping in very cold weather.

Lucky seemed better today. She isn't shivering like she was. She isn't cold, I think it is pain. I've also increased the gabapentin dose.

I walked 5,120 steps today and my foot/heel is feeling a bit better. I think I found something that makes it feel better: I'm using a facial roller on my calf. A facial roller is a stone roller that you run across your face to get rid of wrinkles. Since my calves are so tight and painful, I thought I would try running my facial roller and it seems to be working. I'm still wearing the night boot to keep my foot in the right position and doing my physical therapy exercises.

Until tomorrow...

HOW FAR DID I WALK?

I was supposed to work today but I didn't get any sleep last night. I was up about 10 times. I tried my audiobook, a meditation, nature sounds, reading a book and watching TV. Nothing worked.

I really tried to work but I kept falling asleep!

I wanted to put these totals of the distances per month that I walked:

* January I walked 143,028 steps approximately 64.34 miles
* February I walked 139,820 steps approximately 62.90 miles
*March I walked 169,801 steps approximately 76.34 miles.

Until tomorrow...

DAY THREE WITH BROTHER

This day started out so nice and ended so badly.

My brother and I went to another neighborhood to walk around and get my glasses adjusted. We had Vietnamese food again but this time at my favorite place. I thought they had closed during COVID but they didn't. I have had dreams about their vegan banh mi sandwiches.
Then after walking around we got ice cream at a particularly good ice cream place. I couldnt resist and I got two scoops of vegan ice cream. We took our ice cream to the park and sat in the sun.

Once we got home we played game of Battleship. My brother used to always beat me and today was no exception.

Then it was time to take him to the airport. We decided to stop at a hiking path first and take a little hike to see a lake.
After I took my brother to the airport, I started driving back home when at an exit some car almost hit the side of my car when he decided to merge right into me while driving on the left shoulder. Then he pulled up next to me on the right and started beeping and yelling at me. He was calling me all sorts of not nice and four letters names. Then he pulled in behind me beeping and yelling at every stop sign and stop light for 2 miles. It may not seem like a far distance but when you are in bumper to bumper traffic it seems like a long time. I tried to lose him but he followed me each time I changed lanes or made a turn. Finally, out of fear for my life, I drove to my local police station. I also kept an eye out for cop cars on the way but there is never one when you need one!

When I got you the police station, there was a loading zone parking spot, I pulled in and turned off the car, unhooked my seatbelt, grabbed my keys, unlocked the door, before opening the door and getting out. Over my shoulder I locked the door with my key fob and ran across the two lanes of traffic. I went into the police station and out of the corner of my eye I saw his car blocking traffic half pulled in behind my car.

I went in and told the police there was a guy following me. I was shaking at that point. I didn't know what this guy was going to do. Did he want to yell at me? Did he want to punch me? Did he want to shoot me? He obviously wanted to follow me home and at least intimidate me.

I stayed in the police station for about 25 minutes. I was hoping I would not get a parking ticket and that the guy would leave. Finally it was clear there were no cops available to escort me to my car so I peaked out and the crazy guy seemed gone. The cop at the desk said to come back if he was still out there or followed me again. It was just luck that I found a parking place right across the street the first time!

I went out and he was gone. I quickly got in my car and drove around a bit and then home. I half expected to see him pop out from an alley or parking spot.

I can honestly say I was scared. Who gets that crazy over a merge? That guy clearly needs anger management classes. If didn't think the world has gone crazy, I do now. I'm not sure I will sleep tonight.

Until tomorrow...

DAY TWO WITH BROTHER

Today we both did our PT, then we walked around the neighborhood. We had lunch at a local Vietnamese restaurant. The food was okay.

He helped me figure out the GPS and helped me unscrew my mailbox for my trip. I need the mail to fall into a box so my friend can come collect it.

I made a vegan dinner for us. Barbecue tofu, green beans and a special couscous dish. It was delicious.

He introduced me to the show Hacks on Max. We watched two episodes and I liked it.

Until tomorrow...

MY BROTHER IS VISITING

I had a particularly hard day at work and right after work ended, my brother came from the airport. He flew in from the East Coast to stay with me for a couple of days.

He was super respectful and wore a mask until he tested himself for COVID. Then we ordered a vegan pizza for dinner.

Until tomorrow...

I SAW MY VAN🚐

I got going early and did the few items I had to do . I moved a meeting to the afternoon and I took off. I drove 40 minutes in my car. Yes, it made it there and back easily. I found the rental place and the employees were so nice. They took me through a van and showed me everything. They also answered my questions.

I wanted to check out the storage since this van is smaller than the one I originally rented. There is storage but we will have to see how much when I bring it home. I am going to make a pile of necessary items and a pile of "would love to bring" items.
I also wanted to find out about the fridge. Some RV or van fridges only run when the RV/van is not running. Since I have a bunch of orencia, I need to have constant refrigeration.
Lastly I wanted to find out about the heat. How does it run and will it be enough for the cold weather. Will the pipes freeze? No. The water heater heats the pipes.
Now I just have to wait three weeks to go!

Until tomorrow...

MADE A MISTAKE

Fir months Lucky ate boiled chicken that I boiled. When I went away and left her with the dog sitter, I boiled chicken in advance and froze it.  Well, with this trip coming up, I had to find an alternative. I tried four different brands of people-grade chicken in a can.  She only really liked one of them Stella & Chewy. I got two cases today. One was chicken & chicken liver and the other was supposed to be plain chicken. It wasn't. It was chicken and salmon. I now have an unhappy doggie with an upset tummy. I'll have to get the plain kind tomorrow. Poor baby's tummy is making the same noises my tummy used to make when I would eat dairy products more than 10 years ago! It sounds like the food is going to crawl right out of your tummy!

Until tomorrow...

APRIL FOOL'S DAY

I just looked back at last week and I was going to say the same thing this week. I'm drowning in work. I just worked until 10:00 at night to catch up.

Although it is April fool's Day and Cesar Chavez Day, I went to a doctor's appointment. After the chip incident, I had a sore throat for a long time. But I also had sort of pain underneath my jaw. My doctor decided I should go see an ENT. The ENT was very nice and listen to me. He did a lovely test where he put a little camera down my throat. It was easier than I thought. He didn't see anything but he definitely said that if I don't feel better when I come back from my trip, he would order an MRI.

Until tomorrow..

HAPPY EASTER

Instead of working like I was supposed to, I decided to take a nice long walk down to see the Easter festivities. It was nice to see so many people in one place enjoying themselves.

I had phone calls from a couple of people wishing me a happy Easter. Then I cleaned up around the house including vacuuming the whole house.

Until tomorrow...

VEGAN POP-UP

I wanted to become part of a vegan group for quite some time. Couple months ago I joined a vegan group. Today was a pop-up event. Friday night I bought a ticket and wanted to attend. When it was time for me to go the weather wasn't looking too good so I procrastinated for a little bit. Then I said to myself come on you bought a ticket, you should go. I got in my car and started driving in the direction to the pop-up. It started to downpour and I started to use that as an excuse not to go. But then the rain stopped and I decided I would drive to the location. When I got there there weren't that many people there and I got out and joined them. It was a lovely event there was vegan lasagna, juices, vegan baked goods and a man teaching self-defense. Everything cost a minimal amount of money including the self-defense. I decided to spend $10 and get 15 minutes of self-defense class. He heard that I was going on a van trip so he taught me some close quarters self-defense moves.

I have a wonderful time at the pop-up and can't wait to go to next months. That is also asked to join the communications committee when I get back from my trip. There was also talk of me selling my chocolates at a future pop up. we shall see I have to work a few things out to do that.

It was very nice to be around my people. Other people who eat food like I eat who believe in the ideals I believe in. They seem very nice.

Until tomorrow...

BUSY DAY

Today was a crazy busy day. I had errands to run and appointments to get to. I had to buy more dog food for the puppy. I also bought a ticket to a vegan pop-up event tomorrow. I'm not sure I'm going to go but I thought I would buy a ticket just in case. The weather might not be very good to be outside.

Until tomorrow...

ANOTHER VET VISIT

First thing this morning I took Miss Lucky to see the doctor. Teo weeks ago her liver values were extremely high. She got tested again today and they are better. Now they are just high. I think she will be on antibiotics until the end. But you never know. She isn't called the miracle dog for nothing.

Until tomorrow...

WALKING

I have been in training for my trip. I walk everyday. I am doing all sorts of sit ups, crunches, leg lifts and such. After all those weeks in boots/braces, my feet and legs got weak. I walk 2-3 miles each day. Mostly uphill. Like I said, I am in training.

Until tomorrow...

MAKING PLANS

I have decided I want to see the van I am renting (since my first van rental cancelled on me) before the dey I pick it up. My friend offered to go with me. I think I will be able to plan the things I am bringing if I can see the space. I need to get myself mentally prepared. This van is 4' smaller. A lot less space.

Until tomorrow...

OVERWHELMED WITH WORK

I'm sorry. It has been a long day. Work is overwhelming and I can barely keep my head up. I'm also falling asleep.

Until tomorrow...

TAX PREP IS COMPLETE

After working last weekend and yesterday, my tax prep is completed and sent off to the accountant. It was a lot of work but it is done.

I went on a short walk today. About 5,000 steps. I just needed to get outside and walk.

Lucky is still not doing well. I won't do that shot again.

Until tomorrow...

Saturday, March 23, 2024

TAXES ALL DAY

I need to get my tax prep completed this weekend so I will be chained to my kitchen table. I worked for 3 hours and I am almost done.

I walked around the block, testing out my feet. Lucky came with me but I had to carry her part of the way.

Lucky is not reacting too well to her arthritis shot. I should have listened to first instinct and stopped the shots. I have received information that the shots are harmful to some dogs.

Until tomorrow...

BIG DAY

I got my car back. They could not find anything wrong. They cleaned the spark plugs and checked things out. It seems to work fine. I'm not driving far from home for a while.

With my car, I ran a bunch of errands: the library, return an Amazon item, return items to REI, bought dog food, and bank. I bought four different type of chicken dog food for Lucky. I have been feeding her boiled chicken breasts for months but that will be hard on vacation. I need to get food that doesn't require cooking and freezing.

I bought a hiking rain coat and a bike helmet.

Until tomorrow...

PEST GUY

I had a new pest guy come to give me an estimate. He seemed nice but he only sells pest control contracts. I don't think I need a year long contract. I just need a few visits. I'm going to look elsewhere.

The animals are eating the lemons while they are still on the tree. They are peeling off the ribs and eating it. They leave the inside. It's quite annoying.

Until tomorrow...

CRAZY AT WORK

Today was crazy at work. Everyone of my clients is freaking out that I am going on vacation. I could probably work everyday this month and not get the work done. Ugh!

Until tomorrow...

Tuesday, March 19, 2024

FOOT SHOTS WORKED

I have animals eating my lemons while they are on the tree. I ended up calling a pest guy to see if we can stop this. I don't mind if a lemon or two get eaten but I had 7 lemons that were eaten since yesterday. I needed to do something. He comes tomorrow.

Today is a family members birthday. I almost forgot to call them. I was part way through meditation and I remembered. The group was sweet and waited for me while I made a call.

My feet feel so much better. I guess those painful shots really work. I didn't have any pain all day. I took it easy and only walked around the block. Then I pedaled on my stationary bike for 4 miles.

Until tomorrow...

TAXES, TAXES, TAXES

Taxes, taxes, taxes. Okay I did some other things. I spoke to my friend in the Netherlands for a bit.

I did make a lovely stir fry for dinner.

COUPLE TO THROUPLE

I woke up with the intention to do my taxes but instead I got caught up with a TV show. I started watching Couple to Throuple. It is a show on Peacock a bit like the Bachelor. Committed couples arrive at a resort where a group of singles were waiting. The couples then choose a single to join to make a throuple. I just found it fascinating and couldn't turn it off.

I ended up ordering food because I wanted it after my COVID vaccine on Friday.

My heels are hurting me SO much. I can't wait to go to the foot doctor. I don't know what she will do. I even bought a different foot brace to wear to sleep. The other foot brace would hurt my foot a few hours after I put it on. This new one didn't hurt for a few more hours. I'll give it a few more tries.

I also tried Melotonin for the first time. I fell asleep and stayed asleep but woke up with a headache. I didn't know that was a side effect.

Until tomorrow...

EIGHTH COVID VACCINE

I got another COVID vaccine. It is my eighth. Being immunocompromised is no joke. I'm a bit tired from the shot.

I have been looking for insurance for my vacation. Tonight my cousin called me with an insurance option. It's is a community funded plan but it is legit. I need to make sure if something happens you me, I can get home.

I'm super tired. I'm going to bed.

BROTHER TECH SUPPORT

My car is back in the shop. Last week my car started sputtering at a few stop signs. I don't know what is wrong but I am seriously thinking of a new car when I get back from my trip.

My fantastic brother spent time on the phone with me figuring out a few things for my trip. I couldn't figure out the GSP. I have a handheld GPS with an SOS button in case I get injured. We figured part of it out.

Then we helped me figure out how to listen to downloaded music in the van. I have a new app for music.

There is so much to get ready.

Until tomorrow...

I GOT MY DECK BACK

The contractor came today to finally fix the second leak I my home. Turns out the leak was from an outdoor door frame above the area where the water was leaking. They took part of the deck off and sprayed gallons of water on the door and deck. They saw the water leaking downstairs.

They caulked the area where it was leaking with a plan to replace the door in the summertime. Then they put the deck back together. The area where it leaked below they left open with a fan blowing on it. In a few days it will be dry and I can turn the fan off. Next week they are coming to patch the ceiling when it is dry.

They also sealed the foundation where the water is leaking in. There is still one place where the water is leaking in and they will fix it next time.

I am so happy I can use my deck again. It was SO sunny today and that is the type of day I like sitting on the deck.

Until tomorrow...

ONLY ONE SHOWED ARTHRITIS MEETING

Tonight was my arthritis group meeting. It was my first time doing the whole thing myself. I made this whole presentation on advocacy because some folks were interested.

Only one person showed up! And she was not interested in advocacy. Wasted time making this presentation. I've decided we are going to do it like my other group where the participants take turns presenting.

CLIENTS ARE FREAKING OUT

I'm now making sure the rental has everything I need and what I need to bring or buy. I'm checking the insurance to make sure I am covered.

I have clients who are starting to freak out that I am going on a trip. I keep trying to calm them down but they depend on me.

Until tomorrow...

WTH!?!

The day started out great. I changed all the clocks, did some things and sat down to watch the Oscars. My cousin called and we chatted while looking at the dresses on the red carpet.

I hung up and looked at my email. There was a message saying my reservation for my trip was cancelled. Six and one half weeks before I leave. I'll admit I broke into tears. Sobbing, I called my cousin who calmed me down. Then she went into beast mode. She googled rentals in my area while I called the company. I was going to get my money back and that was it.

After one half hour I had a new rental. I couldn't believe how fast I rented it considering how long it took me to rent the first one. It is much better in some ways and less fancy in others. I will survive and gave a great time.

TASKS ACCOMPLISHED

I tackled a bunch of tasks today. First, I washed my hair with my new shampoo. I hope it works.

Then I used my manual washing machine to do a small load of laundry. I washed 2 t-shirts, a pair of jeans, PJs, 3 underwear and 3 socks. I used biodegradable laundry soap. I didn't rinse super well and there was a bit of the soap on a shirt. I rinsed it off. Overall the laundry smells clean.

I walked 6,870 steps today. About 3miles.

Until tomorrow...

SAW MY DOCTOR

Today I went to see my concierge doctor. It was a check in and time to review all the tests and visits I've been on. We talked about my memory clinic visit, the visit to the endocrinologist and the visit to my rheumatologist.

She is sending me for tests and approved my getting the RSV and COVID vaccines.

I got a lot done today. I got my old camping stove to work. I walked to the library. I made granola bars with oats, walnuts, pecans, almonds, dried apricots, craisins, golden raisins and chocolate chips. These are so good.
Until tomorrow...

BIRTHDAYS

Can you believe I know three people with today as their birthday?  The seventh of March is a popular day.

The planning for my trip is coming along. It's seven weeks until I go. I'm spending every free minute getting things ready, planning, and reading. There is so much to do and buy.

Until tomorrow...

SAW MY GUT DR AGAIN

I met with my gut doctor this morning just to check in. I didn't have much to say.

I walked 5860 stamps. About 2.5 miles.

Untill tomorrow...

MEMORY RESULTS

I received the results from my memory test. I have the memory of any person my age. I don't have to do anything except go back next year and sleep better. That is good news. To celebrate I walked 7,358 steps. About 3 miles.

Until tomorrow...

BONE DENSITY APPOINTMENT

My day started with an appointment with an endocrinologist. She looked at my bones. Things are not too peachy. I have osteopini and osteoporosis. Not good at all. I am going to have to take medicine to slow the bone loss. I don't want to break a hip. Or what happened to someone. They sneezed and broke their neck!

This is the start of a week of medical appointments.

I walked 6,706 steps today. About 3 miles.

Until tomorrow...

GPS

I spent 1.5 hours today trying to get my new handheld GPS to work. It is a handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) for hiking, boating, etc. I am going on a trip where, to be safe, hence the GPS.

It is quite complicated to work but with weeks of trials, I'm sure I can get it working. It also has SOS with satellite. If I get injured or lost, I can push a button and help can find me. It gives my position, the altitude and a bunch of other stuff that I am figuring out.

I only walked 1,969 steps today because it was raining.

Until tomorrow...

VEGAN RESTAURANT DESSERT

6k steps today. Once again I had to wait for a break in the rain.

I went to dinner with a friend. We were going to eat outside but it was raining so we ate inside. It was a vegan restaurant and the food was fabulous.

Here is a photo of my dessert. Chocolate cake, chocolate ice cream and flaming banana.
my friends dessert lemon cheesecake.
The food was incredible.

5k STEPS

Today I walked 5k steps. I waited until the rain subsided. Then I ran a bunch of errands to the post office, library and UPS to return Amazon items. My car is running great.

I did all my exercises for physical therapy.

Until tomorrow...

I GOT MY CAR BACK

Today I walked 6,600 steps. It was raining so I had to walk in between rain showers.

The good news is that my car is fixed again. Coil something, injection thingamajig. I don't know.

My new portable washing machine arrived today. It is a round barrel with a crank. You put the clothes, soap and water in the barrel and crank. Then there is a spout to drain the water. It claims to be able to wash a sheet but I'm going to use it on my trip to wash underwear, socks, shirts.

I found out a staff person of one of my clients is bad mouthing me. The manager was quite upset to hear someone was bad mouthing me. They called me to make sure I was okay. It is annoying to hear the comments.

Until tomorrow...

FOOT BRACE

I walked 8,200 steps today. It started out when I walked to and from physical therapy. It is 1.1 miles each way. I'm in Physical therapy right now for my feet. I was in boots and one crutches for 8 weeks. They say my legs and feet have become weak.

One fun thing is a brace I wear on my right foot at night. Nothing is more romantic than a person with night guards and a brace on my foot.

PAINT SHELF

I walked 5167 steps today. That is 2.5 miles. I'm really trying to get out and walk up hill or stairs every day. I found out one of the places I am going has 700 steps. I'm getting tired just thinking about it. I also found out one of the places I am going, will have the main attraction closed this summer.

It's been a long day. The highlight is that my handyman built a shelf for my paint. I used to have a pink cabinet but it fell apart.

TRIGGERING POST

Today I went back to the podiatrist for my foot. This maybe disgusting to some people so you can skip.

Back in September I fell while hiking in Yosemite. I broke my right foot and tore the ligament in my left ankle. I also smashed my big toe nail. It was all bruised and then over the months, the nail started to almost bubble up with blood underneath.

A few weeks ago, I went to the foot doctor about my broken foot and she looked at my big toe. By that point, my nail had started to hurt and the nail looked funny. The doctor said I cracked the nail down at the base of my nail. She clipped the part of the nail that was cracked and starting to stick up with some fancy clippers.

Fast forward to today. She decided that I probably cracked the nail further down below the skin/cuticle. She took some fancy metal thing and started digging under the skin/cuticle to pull out the broken part of the nail. It was not fun. She found these little pieces of nail under the skin that were poking me. It was quite painful especially since the area was already sore.

Hopefully this fixes it but if it doesn't, I need to return two weeks before my next trip so she can be more aggressive and I will have time to heal before my next trip.

I now have a brace that I sleep in to hold my foot perpendicular. I have pads in my shoes under my toes. I have gel heel pads in my shoes. Nothing makes you feel old like orthodic items in your shoes. I guess nurses shoes are next.

Until tomorrow...

16 MILES IN ONE WEEK

Today was a walk to get my DVDs from the library. Yes I still watch DVDs sometimes. I can watch new movies months before they come out on streaming. You can't beat free movies.

On my way back I stopped by the hardware store to buy Coleman fuel. I need the Coleman fuel for my super old Coleman stove. I camped with this stove with my family as a kid. I plan on cooking on my stove when I go camping.

I came back, and after a bath, I worked on my taxes again.

I walked 8,200 steps which is 4 miles today. I'm trying to increase the number of steps each week. Last week I walked 39,883 Steps. That is 16.62 miles.

Until tomorrow...

ANOTHER HIKE

I started today with a 2.8 mile hike. It was almost all the way uphill. I had to walk to the park uphill and then the park inclined 530 feet about sea level. It had beautiful views.

I was supposed to work on my taxes but instead, I made chocolate-peanut butter protein bars.

Lucky needed a bath and since it was our first sunny day in weeks, in the bath she went. She is now fluffy and smells nice.

I decided to make a vegan bake with potatoes, sweet potatoes, kale and vegan hot dogs. Delicious!
Until tomorrow...

INVISALIGN RETAINERS?

I had another sunny day so I went for a hike. Since I walked earlier, my step count was 2.5 miles today.

I went to the dentist office because they called to tell me there were Invisalign retainers for me. I didn't even know I was getting invisalign retainers, because I already have a mouthguard. There seems to be a bit of confusion as to why they suddenly showed up. But I took them and I can use them in the future to keep my teeth straight.

I sent my ex-foster kid present in the mail since he moved into his own apartment. It is two teenage cookbooks so he can start cooking food for himself.

Until tomorrow...

9 WEEKS UNTIL MY BIG TRIP

I am not sure if I mentioned this before, but I am going on a big trip. I leave in 9 weeks and I am so excited.

Every day I do more planning for the trip. I have maps and books. I've made spreadsheets and I have a box with things I need to bring.

Today was moving day for my ex-foster son. He moved into his own but supportive apartment. I could not assist in the move but we video called and I got to see his place. I bought him two presents a month ago. The present is two cookbooks for teens.

Today was finally mostly sunny. I went for a two mile walk.

Until tomorrow...

8 MILES THIS WEEK

I went for a a 1.5 mile walk today during lunch. I need to train for my trip. I think I have walked over 8 miles in the last week. Pretty good but I need to walk more. The walking is making me super hungry. I'm trying to eat better so that could be why I am so hungry. No sweets or junk food (my type of junk food is tortilla chips).

It was finally a sunny day after a week of rain.

Until tomorrow...

TOLD CLIENTS ABOUT TRIP

I honestly don't have much to write about today. I was loaded didn't with work. Last Friday I told my clients I am taking a trip. So far two are excited for me. Two seem freaked out and I haven't heard from the other.  They took it better than I expected.

I walk 2.5 miles today. It was not raining as much.

Until tomorrow...

PRESIDENTS DAY

Another stormy day. I lost wifi for awhile. Luckily I paid for a month of my Travelfi. Travelfi is a way to have Wi-Fi through a portable system. It is helpful sometimes.

I started my taxes today. It will take next weekend too.

I went on another walk but it had to be short because of the rain. Only about mile.

Until tomorrow...

ANOTHER MONTH OF INVOICING DONE

Today was a boring day. I had to invoice my clients. It is my least favorite task. If you have been reading for a while, you already know this. I got it done, so I am happy.

I went on a 2.5 mile walk in between the rain storms. I took Lucky with me in her carriage.

I watched Oppenheimer today. It was a loooong movie. It took me a while, with some breaks, to get through it. It was good.

Until tomorrow...

RAIN & COOKING

I decided to cook today. It is pouring on outside. I made a fennel and sweet potato au gratin. Then I made kale, chickpea and broccoli soup. So incredibly tasty. I used the Instapot. The soup was ready in 22 minutes! And I didn't have to do anything except chopped veggies and open a can.

Unfortunately I used a mandolin and cut my finger. It was so stupid. I didn't use the guard.

I walked 3 miles.

Until tomorrow...

BACK TO ACUPUNCTURE

I also started acupuncture again after a short pause.  Unfortunately, I keep having nerve tingling in my left arm and my lower back.

I lay down and the needles are put in. Then about 3-5 minutes later, my left leg starts jumping all over the table. It was not relaxing and ruins the whole experience.

Until tomorrow...

STARTING PHYSICAL THERAPY AGAIN

I went to my first physical therapy today. The place would not let me continue from my physical therapy last fall so I had to start over.

I need to work on my feet, shoulder and back. Do you ever feel like you are falling apart, one piece at a time?

Until tomorrow...

NOT FEELING TOO GOOD

I started having a stomach ache this morning. I spent the whole day on the couch. Not much to report except nice way to spend Valentine's Day.

WHATS THE TEMPERATURE?

I got a new thermostat. The thermostat I had was bought before the time change of daylight savings time. For you younguns, daylight savings time used to be the end of April and the end of October. Currently daylight savings time is March 10 and November 3. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 changed daylight saving time (DST) to the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November.

With my old thermostat, I had to change the clock four times a year. With my new fancy thermostat, I will never have to change the time. Plus my new one has fancy screen colors! Now I will be warm and comfy for my joints.

My arthritis group met tonight. We had all sorts of technology issues but once we got going, I made my presentation on the Blue Zones. People seemed very engaged and I was told it was good. I was a bit thrown by the tech issues.

COGNITIVE ASSESSMENT

I got up early and went to the foot doctor this morning. I wanted her to look at my toe from when I fell in Yosemite. It still hurts. Turns out the nail on my big toe was cracked and she had to cut it off. I still have a nail but now it doesn't hurt. Then she looked at my heels. You know when you get old when: you have to wear braces on your feet at night. They are supposed to stop the pain in my feet. She also looked at where I broke my foot. She thinks I am starting to get a callus. Ugh!

After a short stop at home to take Lucky out, I went to my cognitive assessment. I spent 3.5 hours doing cognitive tests. I had to repeat words for what seemed like hours. There were puzzles, items to draw, and problems to solve that made my brain hurt.

At the end I was told that they will review the test results, strategize a plan, and the next time we meet I will get some answers. I have to wait three weeks.

Until tomorrow...

HIKE #2

I woke up early and went on a hike to another park. It was a long way down a hill and then a tough walk back up (in sand!) I did not bring Lucky because she would never had made it.

I watched the Superbowl. Ugh! I did work while watching the game. Invoicing. My least favorite task.

I have to make a presentation on Tuesday and I am not ready.

Tomorrow is my memory assessment. I'm a little anxious about it.

Until tomorrow...

Gong Xi Fa Cai

Happy Chinese Lunar New Year.  There are lots of fireworks going off tonight.

Since the contractor decided to not show up again, I went for a hike. I went to a wonderful hike in a park 15 minutes from my home. I only went there once before but I had Lucky so I couldn't hike very far. To day I hiked 8,200 steps. That is about 4 miles! I have to get in shape for my hiking trip in a few months.

I watched Nyad tonight.  I thought it was really good. Jodie Foster was really good. Annette Benning too.

Until tomorrow...
