RECOVERY DAY TWENTY-TWO

I had a pretty stressful day. Not for a reason you might think. My wifi went out last night and did not come back on until 4:30 today. It turns out that there was a fire somewhere and some part that was in charge of the internet burned and they had to replace it. That took longer than they thought (probably because they could not get to it because of the fire and then the fire inspectors) so I had no wifi.

It was stressful because I needed to get things done and I needed to work. I could not do any of it. I had to find things to do. I scanned all my insurance paperwork and put it in an online folder. Once you have lived through a disaster, you stay prepared. I worked on my puzzle. I watched the end of a movie on my computer. I walked Lucky.

I also had an appointment with my nutritionist. It was supposed to be a video call but it ended up being a phone call. He was super helpful in explaining the latest studies to me. We worked out a plan for what next to eat. We are going to check in in a few weeks instead of our normal three months.

I am not feeling as good today but I am sure it was from the stress of the day. Tomorrow is another day.

Until tomorrow...

NEW MICROWAVE

The WiFi finally came back on at 3am. It went off at 1:30 pm. Ugh. At least I had it today.

Today was another crazy day. I got a notification that my new microwave was being delivered a day early. I was also scheduled to be at the dental specialist. I texted my neighbor to see if he could keep an eye out in case it got delivered while I was at the dentist. It came after I got home.

The dentist drilled through my calcification and got to the root canal and got the infection out. He said it was pretty bad. It is done and now I get another crown.Yippee! I started wondering when we stopped pulling out teeth and started putting on crowns. It would be a lot cheaper to pull the sucker out. This tooth costs more than my first car.

Then I got home and my handyman came over the did the repairs. He said it was the crazy storm that caused the leaking but he shored up the two places and is coming over tomorrow to seal my stairs. It is a yearly thing to do. Then he tackled my shower drain. He said he wasn't sure he could do it but then he pulled a clump of hair out of the drain and all the water went down. I swear I don't know how I am not bald. All that hair. It was different when I had 1" hair, it never clogged the drain.

Then the microwave arrived. The box was huge! I thought there was no way it would fit on my counter. I had to measure and make sure of the measurements of each microwave the store had. I finally found one that fit, had a good review and cost a decent amount. I took off the packaging and put it on the counter and it fit. It is bigger than my old microwave but it still fits. Just. I have it turned on but I need to try it.

I did a zoom course on meditation during crisis. It was okay. Not exactly what I thought it would be.

Until tomorrow.

NO WIFI FOR HOURS

I couldn't post earlier tonight because I had no WiFi for hours. I finally did this post from my phone. Then I looked at my phone and I used all my data and it is only a few days into my month. I had to shut down my phone.

It is amazing how much we depend on WiFi for everything. I had no TV, no movies, no access to my phone without using my data plan, no zoom, no email, no Instagram. I kept reaching for things and realized I could not do them. I had a zoom meeting that I had to call into. I had to figure out how to call into a zoom. I had a board meeting that I could not attend in "Person" but had to call into. It was so frustrating. I had a doctor's appointment that I had to do over the phone instead of Facetime. Then I wanted to watch something on my phone but I didn't know my password and couldn't use the WiFi to get it. Just one thing after another.

It really amazes me how dependent we are on our internet companies. I finally gave up when I realized I used up all my data and read a book. I did buy some more data for the rest of the month but I am being really careful with it because it isn't very much.

That was most of my day.

Until tomorrow...

NO INTERNET MOST OF THE DAY

I got the internet back during the night but then lost it again around 7:30 am.  I was frustrated.  I called the company and let them know.  I got the internet back again around 10:30am.  I also got an email explaining that something went wrong with a tower.

Then I lost the internet again.  I got it back again.  It is weird how much of our lives now revolve around the internet.

Lucky went for a long walk with the dog walker today.  She came back and was limping.  Not really limping more like stiff.  Her back leg is sort of stiff.  She doesn't want to walk and just wants to sleep.  I called the vet but they had already left for the day.  I will call again tomorrow. I hope she just strained a muscle and it isn't something serious.

Until tomorrow...

DAY SIXTY-EIGHT OF COOKING COURSE

Happy Pi Day!  I did it!  I finally made pizza dough!  I figured out how to use yeast to make the dough.  The pizza came out terrific.  I already ate two pieces.  I make a pizza with sauce, vegan cheese, red peppers, black olives, spinach and fresh basil.

I found out my very old oven has a section that is perfect for proofing.

This time my pizza dough making was less traumatic.

Once I finished the pizza I took my Italian section test and I passed.  I have my certificate.  I now have 4 certificates.  Now I am starting the Korean chapter.

My internet service went down and has been down all day.  A few months ago I downloaded some movies onto my iPad just in case.  I had something to do during my long hours of no internet service.  I watched The Meg and Mulan II.  I hope I have internet service tomorrow.  I have work to get done.

Until tomorrow...

DAY 53 NO INTERNET

Day 53 since I have left the house

The day was going along great until the afternoon when the internet went out.  It said it would be 15 minutes but it was closer to 10 hours.  UGH!  That is all I have to say.

Until tomorrow...

WIFI

I am really amazed with wifi system in my home.  I am convinced that my system was designed by someone who has kids; possibly teens.  I will tell you why.

My system allows you to turn it off. Okay, a lot of systems let you do that.  My system allows me to turn off each of my wifi beacons separately.  So if someone is using the beacon in the living room to watch TV and use their iPad and I don't want them watching TV and iPad, I can turn that beacon off.

The system also allows me to specifically turn off access from any electronic connected to my wifi system.  This I love.  You are not supposed to be watching TV past 9pm?  Okay, I give you two warnings and then BOOM!  The TV gets disconnected from the internet.  You are annoying me with Alexa when you are supposed to be getting ready for school?  BOOM!  Alexa gets disconnected.  I don't even have to get up from my chair.

It is like a game sometimes!  It is my favorite app now.  Ultimate power.

I remember the first time I turned it off with my foster son.  He just looked at the remote and the TV.  He kept pushing buttons.  He could not figure out what happened.  Why it didn't work.  Until it clicked in and he figured it out.  Then he was not happy.

Until tomorrow...

PHOTO CHALLENGE DAY 1

Today I am starting a new challenge.  I love photography and over the years I have been influenced/convinced not to take pictures.  I used to take pictures all the time.  So my new challenge is to take an interesting photo a day for one month and post it.

I like these interesting succulents.  The flowers are colorful and sweet. It looks like a cauliflower in a way.

I spoke to the doctor today about Happi and we are going to monitor her.  She went for a walk but was super slow and only went about 1/2 block and turned around and came home.  I gave her an anti-inflammatory pill to see if that helps.

I was without the internet almost all day today.  It is amazing how much we rely on the internet. I could barely get anything done.  No work, no skype, no Echo timer, no Netflix, no music, no email.  What a day.

Until tomorrow...

NET NEUTRALITY

I took Happi to another veterinary appointment.  I am very worried that this teeth chattering is getting better but it is not going away.  I have done some research but I can't figure it out.  The other symptoms she had (shivering, tremors) went away.  She is still licking but not like she was.  Her mouth seems dry but her nose is wet.  She is yawning and teeth chattering periodically.  This new doctor thinks her stomach is bothering her.  We now have her on Flagyl and something to calm her stomach that I have to give her 1/2 hour before she eats.  I said I would give this a try and see if it does any thing.  He says those symptoms can be a sign of pain and he is thinking that the drugs upset her stomach.  She has been having strong (run you out of the room) gas for weeks.

I went to a Net Neutrality protest today.  In case you have not heard, Net Neutrality is the thing that keeps the internet free.  Everyone has access.  No Internet Service Provider can slow it down.  Keep the internet free.

Until tomorrow...

ZOOM

I had the new wireless ISP installed today. I am SO happy. The upload and download speeds are so fast. We put on two Netflix movies, my iPad and the digital photo frame and everything was still working! Yay!

The whole process was so painless. The two women showed up and climbed up on the roof and installed the antennae. Then they ran a wire down the side of the house. Then in the house and connected it to my computer. 45 minutes later I am a faster blogger!

This is such a happy day. Now I am switching over all my email addresses. This is a month long activity. All accounts, newsletters, friends, contacts, business associates, etc.

I am so happy!

Until tomorrow...

No Internet

Yesterday we had a technology breakdown. Something happened with our phone line and since we have dsl, we lost the internet. This was a problem because among other things, I work from home. I whittled my internet work down and I what little I had to do I did through my phone.
It is funny how dependent we are on the internet. All day and evening I wanted to look something up or do something and it involved using the phone or the internet. We were lucky I have a work phone line so in a pinch we could use that.
Finally today at 12pm it was fixed. Halleluah!
