ELECTION

Our election is next Tuesday and I have had practically no election fliers on the door of my house. I see other houses that have all these fliers rubber banded to their doors or those door hangers.   I have had no door things so far this election cycle.  I have gotten tons of mail.  I just stand at my mail slot and throw it all in my recycling bin.

I just think maybe the election people don't want to come up my hill but that seems lazy.  Do they not think we vote up the hill?

I have only had one person ring my doorbell.  I was on the phone and waved her away.  But seriously one person?  We have our District Supervisor, Mayor, Lieutenant Governor, and Governor all up for election.  As well as a bunch of issues.  I should be inundated.  Oh, I am not complaining.  I am just surprised.  Maybe I am not on any election rolls.  Who knows?  I vote every year.

I just find it interesting.

I went to see my RA doctor today and he wants me to get a shingles/zoster vaccine.  I need to talk to my doctor.  Then he wants to put me on Xeljanz.

VEGGIE AND FRUIT DELIVERY #5

• 2 ears of multi colored corn

INCREASED MEDICATION

About one week of taking increased thyroid medication and I see a slight difference already.  My doctor said it may take a couple of weeks to see a full difference.  I hope it does make a difference and I am less fatigued.

MEMORIAL DAY PICNIC

Today I had a picnic at my home. It was the inaugural usage of the new barbecue.  I had some friends and neighbors over. The picnic was a "bring your own meat to grill" picnic.  Folks brought steak, chicken and fancy bourbon burgers.  I made barbecue tofu, potato salad, orzo salad and brownies. The brownies were a hit.

It was a beautiful day in my area. The dogs behaved. Everything seemed to work today.

This is the beginning of a summer of barbecues.

DAY WITH A TWO YEAR OLD

Today my friend R came to visit with her almost two years old I. I spent the morning watching the Indy 500 and Danica Patrick's final race. It was sad to watch her crash but it seemed everyone was crashing in this heat.

Unfortunately I was having a two year old day. She didn't want to take her nap. She didn't want to eat her food. She didn't want to play. She just wanted to do the things she was told not to do which was making mommy very unhappy.

It was good to see them both. Since they moved to the East Coast I don't get to see them very often.

At the park, we saw a hawk. I took some photos of him and when I turned around, he buzzed me. It was a bit shocking to have a hawk come that close.

SOLO

I really wanted to like it so much. I wanted to fall in love with it.

I just didn't love Solo. I thought it was super slow. For a Star Wars movie it lacked action. I get it was setting the story but so did Rogue One. Rogue One was anything but slow or boring.

I will rewatch it when it comes out in 6 months and see if I feel the same way.

PLANNING FOR THE WEEKEND

I just decided today that I am having a barbecue on Monday, Memorial Day. I have been thinking and talking about this for about a month. I finally committed today. Now I have to see if anyone will come at such short notice.

When I first got my house, I used to have barbecues and parties frequently. I want to get back to that.

FRIENDS

What do you do when you are not sure you want to continue being friends with someone you have been friends with for many, many years?  (No, I am not writing about you H or S)  It is a hard decision.  What if the person has stopped being a positive person in your life and although you have been friends for a long time, you just want positive people in your life?  Is that a good enough reason to stop being friends? 

I think I have a lot to think about.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

THYROID MEDICATION

This fatigue and fog that I feel like I am in is REALLY annoying.  I sure hope the increased thyroid medication helps quickly (or at all).  I feel like I keep making mistakes at my clients.  I am so fatigued and sleepy.

PRIMARY DOCTOR APPOINTMENT

I went to see my primary doctor today.  We talked about how I am feeling since my accident where my dog whacked my chin.  My neck is much better.  Not perfect yet but getting better.

I told him about my fatigue and weight gain.  He decided that my thyroid meds needed to be increased a little bit. 

We talked about my heart stuff. 

I have to go get some blood work before the next appointment.  That is about it.

I went to get my blood work for my RA appointment next week.  My primary told me the results of the x-rays I took over a month ago.  There is RA degeneration in my hands.  He didn't see anything in my feet which I think is surprising.  We spoke about how my taking Enbrel when I was younger and it was new probably stopped me from having as much degeneration in my hands and feet.  I need to get on some other medication at my next RA appointment.

YOU'RE HIRED

I got good news today.  I got hired on for another gig.  June will be busy for me and I like it.  I always get a rush when I get a new gig.  Like "someone likes me".  I know that isn't true but that is how it feels.

MONOPOLY

My friend's foster son came over and we opened up 400 Monopoly pieces.  Our local supermarket is playing a game called Monopoly.  Each time you shop you get Monopoly pieces.  He was given over 600 pieces by a nice lady at the supermarket.

We sat and opened the pieces and found three that matched my Monopoly board.  I have had that board for over three months and had it almost filled.  I am missing about 25 pieces.

With the three pieces that we found, we have won $15.  He has about 200 pieces left to open and maybe we will win something else.

Along with the chances to win, I also got coupons.  Some of them were for free items and some were for money off.  I went shopping and bought a bunch of stuff.  I got about $40 off.

DEADPOOL 2

Today I went with my Movie Club to see Deadpool 2.  It was really good.  The writers are really good on thinking up ways for Deadpool to kill bad guys.

I also started watching season 2 of 13 Reasons Why.  So far it is riveting.

VEGGIE AND FRUIT DELIVERY #4

I got my veggie and fruit delivery today.  I got broccoli, carrots, potatoes, grapefruit, oranges, yellow squash, beets, kale and bok choy.

I plan on making soup with the potatoes and kale.

FOSTER FAMILY PICNIC

Today I went to a foster picnic.  It is a picnic where there are kids waiting to be placed up for adoption.  I went to the same picnic last year.  This year it was different because last year's fair was where I saw my foster son for the first time.  I was sort of sad at this fair remembering what happened in the past year.

I didn't get as involved with the activities this year.  Last year I played ball and played games.  This year I sort of sat on the sidelines and watched a bit more.  I think I was more introspective.

STRESS TEST

Today I went for my stress test.  If you have never had a stress test before it is very stressful.  First the tech puts the sticky things on you and attaches the wires for the EKG.  Then the tech does an ultrasound to check out my heart.  After all that, I get on a treadmill and they had me walk.  Slow at first and then faster and on an incline.  It got harder and harder until I was doing a little jog.  I don't jog since my ankle surgery.

After the treadmill and while I was huffing and puffing, they laid me on the table and did another ultrasound.

I have been told no news is good news.  I won't hear anything unless it is bad news.  I was also told that since they didn't bring a doctor in immediately that was good news.

LIBRARY

I have been using the library a lot lately.  Unfortunately the library parking lot is under construction and that is quite inconvenient.  I can't just drive up to the drop off slot and drop off returns.  I have to find parking and walk around to drop off items in the slot or go inside.

Today I found a parking spot in the area and went in and picked up my reserved items: an audiobook and a few DVDs.  I listen to the audiobooks in my car when I drive back and forth to my clients.

I recently found out that the library has a plethora of movies.  The movies are DVD and Blueray.  I have been checking them out.  I can get DVDs that are brand new like I just got Geostorm which Netflix just got.  They also have older movies too.  I never saw the movie San Francisco so I checked it out. 

Currently I get one Netflix DVD sent to my home so I can see the most recent movies.  I am thinking of stopping the subscription and just getting the DVDs from the library for the cost of $0.  I can also check them out for 2 weeks.

3.5 EARTHQUAKE

I was just sitting around after work when all of a sudden, the earth started to move.  A quick shake and it was over.  It was a 3.5 earthquake pretty close by.  I have been expecting an earthquake since there has been so much activity around the world lately.   Nothing broke or fell.  It was over in a few seconds.

FREIND FROM FAR AWAY

My friend S came to visit from the Netherlands.  I haven't seen her in more than 2 years.  It was so great to catch up and hang out all day.  We talked and walked and ate lunch.  We goofed around in a 5&Dime store.  I bought a fuschia boa for Pink Saturday.  My boa has died.

Then we ate chocolate cheese cake.

It was a wonderful day.

CLEANED UP GARDEN

Today the gardener came and cleaned up the backyard.  It looks so nice.  A place I can have people over.  I wish my backyard was easier to control. 

My friend S came by and we went to a local place to sit and talk.  It is funny how many places that don't serve alcohol close at 7 pm.  We had to look for a place to sit and talk after 7 pm and just get a tea without loud music.  We finally found a place and stayed there for 2 hours.

It was good to catch up.  We have a good time together.

DEADPOOL

I finally got around to watching Deadpool today.  I had the movie for ages but never felt like watching it.  I heard all sorts of reviews and comments about it.  I thought I may not like it very much.  I had to watch it because Deadpool 2 is coming out next week and I already have tickets to go see it.

I loved it!  I thought it was not as violent as people told me it was. The language, well, that doesn't bother me at all.  I really liked Blind Al, his roommate.  She was hysterical.

I am glad I watched it and now I can't wait for Deadpool 2.

HAPPI UPDATE

Happi is taking a longer course of antibiotics.  She has to take them for 3 weeks and then get retested to see if the virus is gone.  She is feeling better.  I am not sure why she keeps getting UTIs.  The doctor says older dogs can get them more frequently. 

My dog is getting better healthcare than I am.

MERGE LANE

I grew up on the East Coast.  I feel like I was taught the correct way to merge on a highway.  Lately I have seen a phenomenon that drives me crazy.

I am driving along in the right lane on a highway.  There is a merge where a lane merges into the highway.  The cars in the lane behind me move to the right into the merge lane in order to skip ahead and merge further up in the right lane of the highway.

Today the car behind me moved to the right lane into the merge lane and got one car ahead of me.  Why is that so important to people?  To get one or two cars ahead.  Is moving one or two cars ahead in line going to save them so much time?  It is so rude.

Anyway, that is my rant for the day.  My audiobook ended so I didn't have something to entertain myself.

HAPPY 7TH BLOG ANNIVERSARY

I started this blog today in 2011.  I have tried to everyday but some days it is hard to squeeze it in.  Sometimes I post late and it shows up on the next day.

I tried all sorts of different blog challenges.  The last challenge was a one year Happiness Challenge.  Maybe it is time to do another challenge, I don't know.

Happy Blog Anniversary!  I have 136,000 views since the beginning.  Pretty good.

ELECTRICIAN

The electrician came by and gave me an estimate to do the work on my electrical box. I have to change my electrical box before I paint my house.  It has taken forever to get a quote for the work.  There is so much construction in my area that contractors do not want to do a little job like mine, they want to do the big jobs.  So it is hard to get a licensed contractor to even give you a call back.

The electrician finally came by and gave me a quote.  Now he has to get a permit and schedule the work and get it done.

I decided to rest up today.  Heating pad and a hot shower.  Rest all day.  Just what the doctor ordered.

NERVE PAIN

My injured neck and shoulder have been getting worse.  It was getting better after I first injured myself but then it took a turn for the worse.  I have been having a serious pain under my arm.  I called the doctor and he says there is a group of nerves under your arm that I might have irritated that is causing the pain.  It is called Intercostobrachial neuralgia.  This is a nerve pain issue in which nerves coming from the upper thoracic spine and going into your armpit upper inner arm, and upper chest wall are damaged and cause pain in this region.  The doctor seems a bit concerned and wants me to come in next week to have a look.  

Amazing what one little knock on the chin can do.  

Today is Happi's 13.5 birthday.  She came to me when she was 1.5 years old so I have always celebrated her 1/2 year birthday.  It is also Cinco de Mayo.  Happy birthday and cinco de mayo.

ANOTHER EMERGENCY WITH HAPPI

Had to rush Happi to the doctor again.  She got up this morning and she was peeing like crazy again.  Luckily her regular doctor had a cancellation and could see her.  It turns out the antibiotic was the wrong one and they put her on the right one.  They also took a culture and ran some tests.  She does not have a tumor or stones which was good.  The culture will tell if this antibiotic is the right one but it takes five days to find out.  I am starting her on this new antibiotic in the meanwhile.

I also went to see my breast cancer doctor and she gave me good news.  Nothing to worry about.  She also told me I have the breasts of a 30 year old.  I may have the joints of a old person but I have the breasts of a 30 year old.  Ha ha.

SHOULDER

My shoulder is not feeling much better.  I thought it would feel better by this time.  I am sleeping better but during the day I am feeling some pain.

HAPPI UPDATE

Happi is doing much better.  The medicine seems to be working.  She is back to peeing regularly.  She is still a bit lethargic but I think this whole situation has taken a lot out of the old gal.  Stairs are hard on a 13.5 year old dog with three legs and she was running up and down at least 25 times a day.
