LUCKY DENTAL

Poor Lucky!  We all had to get up early and take Lucky in for her dental appointment.  She needed to get her teeth cleaned.  I feel that she had a bad tooth.

The doctor called to say that although her largest tooth in the back looked good on the outdside, in the inside of her mouth it was rotten all the way through.  She must have been in terrible pain.

He needed to pull the tooth (her 20th tooth pulled) and clean the rest.  She got 5 stitches when they pulled the tooth.  She did really well and got to come home at the end of the day.  She has 23 teeth left.

She was super sleepy and out of it.  She slept the rest of the night.

Until tomorrow...

CONCERT AND PHOTOS

I went to a special concert tonight.

I had some friends teenager-sit so I could attend the concert.  It was a concert where special photos and videos were shown and the symphony played music at the same time.  It was nice.

I loved the photos and videos but to be honest I couldn't tell you anything about the music.  I was so focused on the visuals.

It was nice to get out without the kid.  I owe my friends.

Until tomorrow...

HOMEMADE PONCHO

The kid went to another birthday party today.  There was another bouncy house and another pinata.  This time I dropped the kid off and went home to get some things done.  I went back 4 hours later to pick him up and he still wanted to stay longer.  Since the party was 40 minutes away, we needed to go.  He was unhappy he had to leave.

The host gave me another homemade poncho.  This one was beautiful.

I am going to wear it to my clients office to show off.

Until tomorrow...

SINGING IN A MOVIE

Today was a day of errands, social worker visit and getting a haircut.  No not mine. The kid finally got his haircut.  It looks good.  At least it is not in his food when he eats anymore.  Small victories.  I have bigger fights to fight then his hair.

Once we got home, we watched the movie The Greatest Show.  It was better than I thought it would be.  There is nothing that ruins a movie more than breaking into song for no reason.  This is my opinion.  I don't mind it in a theater musical because you know what you are getting into.  But movies should only have singing if singing is necessary for the movie.  Like in Coyote Ugly or Pitch Perfect or Bohemian Rhapsody.

Until tomorrow...

STUCK WATCHING TV

Have you ever been stuck watching a TV show you are not interested in?  I now live with a 13 year old boy and we have very different tastes in TV shows.  He likes Charmed and Supergirl and The Flash.  I have never watched any of those shows.  Ever.  He wants me to watch them with him.  I get it.  But they are shows that have been around a few seasons and he wants me to start watching now.  It is mid story.  I have no idea who any of the characters are.

I am usually reading a magazine or working on my computer during these shows.  I honestly have no interest whatsoever in witches with superpowers or whatever.

Until tomorrow...

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY AND ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

I went to my final occupational therapy appointment for my wrist today.  We decided that my wrist is not healed the way it should be for it being three months from the accident.  He was happy that I had an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon later that day.  I may be going back but I have to wait and see.

I saw the orthopedic surgeon today.  He lifted my arm like a bird and it hurt, a lot.  He poked my wrist and it hurt a lot.  He apologized for my arm and wrist still hurting after three months.  He decided to send me, finally, for an MRI on my shoulder and to a wrist expert to look at my wrist.

I will have the MRI next week and all my physical therapy appointments until after the MRI have been cancelled.  Yay!  I will have extra time for almost two weeks.

Until tomorrow...

UPDATE ON OT AND PT AND PEST PROBLEM

Tomorrow I go to see my orthopedic surgeon to get a check up for my shoulder and wrist.  My PT and OT feel that I am not healing very quickly so they want me to see the doctor.

Okay I have not been doing the exercises as much as I should be, I'll admit maybe not very much but I have tried considering what I have been going through.

My wrist is better but it still hurts when I turn or hold it a certain way.  If you hold your left hand flat and and take your pointer finger and point to the right.  That hurts in the left side of my wrist.  When the OT did an ultrasound the vibrations made the bones hurt for days.  The OT said it was because the bones are not healed and they were vibrating.

My shoulder was doing much better than I went on vacation and it got worse.  It is doing much better but it still hurts more than it should considering my injury was three months ago.

We will see what the doctor has to say tomorrow.

Today the pest guy came to check out the ant and rodent problem.
  1. Ant problem.  There is an ant problem in the backyard and on the deck.  He could not find the source but he sprayed the area.  Hopefully that solves it and they don't come back with an vengenence.
  2. Rodent problem.  This problem has been going on for a while.  He came out again because the place he looked and filled last time had more insulation kicked out of the small hole and on the floor.  So obviously there is some rodent living in the wall.  He finally located the hole outside and it is bigger than we thought.  He still thinks it is a smaller rat or a mouse because the hole was super small.  Once he started pulling on the hole, the wall started falling apart where the rodent had chewed.  He filled it and then put a metal plate covering it.  Hopefully this solves the problem for now.
Until tomorrow...

DRIVER

The kid has a driver to get to school and back.  To be my foster kid, he needed to finish school in his old school district.  I told them I didn't have the time to drive him back and forth AND work.  It would have been 4+ hours in the car each day.

It was a bit of a glitch at the beginning but it got straightened out when they got permission to have the same drivers each way to school.  Everything was going along fine until yesterday.  One of the drivers yesterday called me when he got to my home and said "I have your daughter outside."  The kid thought it was weird that he was called a girl.  He said the driver knows my name and has driven me for days. Each day the app asks for a review and the kid said the driver made a comment about him not giving him a review.  So we gave him a review and in the comments we said it is important to know someone's gender and get it right.   (FYI the app asks it and has a photo and the kids name)

Today when the driver picked him up he asked the kid if he had his seat belt on.  Normal question.  The kid said yes he did.  The driver then got out of the car and came around and opened the door and checked to see if he had the seat belt on.  The kid said he felt very uncomfortable when the guy did that.  He said why didn't the guy believe him when he said yes he had the seat belt on or if he did not, why didn't he ask him to put it on again?

The kid came home and told me.  We decided to call the company and request a new driver.  The kid said he felt uncomfortable with the interaction.  The company said some people who English is not their first language can get confused with names.  Okay, I can understand that but if you look at the kid, it is obvious he is a boy.  Also if he is confused, don't use a pronoun.  "I have your child in the car out front."

I hope they give this driver some training.  We will get another driver tomorrow and will go back to a new driver every day until they find another permanent driver.  We just feel better with that option.

Until tomorrow...

PASSWORD PROTECTIONS ON TV

I am at that place where I have to put passwords on TV.  I had to with my previous foster kid but with him it was easier because he was young so I just put on all the kid friendly stuff and called it a day.

With this foster kid it is more complicated.  Mostly it is more complicated because he is on the cusp of one age group and another.  I don't want the kid to see older more adult stuff without me viewing it and knowing he is seeing it but at the same time, he is too old for the younger kid stuff.  Netflix has a weird setting system.  They go from small kid-viewing to viewing the Ellen stand up show in one jump.  I wish there was a middle ground.  Somewhere between Trolls and Ellen talking about getting a mud bath.

So I put the parental controls on all the channels.  I did the lockdown.  You can't watch Game of Thrones at my house without a password.  Horrible Bosses, need a password.  Want to add a channel to the Roku?  Need a password.  The kid is not happy and I try to explain it is for his safety but kids never see it that way.

Listen, I wish someone had put child safety locks on the TV in San Diego when I was a kid and we stayed at a hotel with our cousin and my godmother.  My cousin thought it would be cool to show us HBO (it was a new thing on the west coast).  She put it on and right then was the movie The Exorcist.  It was the part when The Exorcist vomits and the head spins around.  To this day I can't get that vision out of my head.  I was mesmerized and terrorized all at the same moment.  Then I screamed for my mom.  Where were the parental locks then?  It could have saved me hours of terror and years of nightmares.  I will probably have one tonight just thinking about this.  Ugh!

I am just trying to keep the kid safe.  I promise.

Until tomorrow...

EASTER PARADE

Today before anyone got up (okay not Happi who wakes up with the sun) I went out and hid Easter eggs in the backyard.  I remembered to count them to make sure they all get found.  The last thing I need is a dog or wild animal finding an Easter egg and tearing it open.  The eggs are full of candy.  The kid had a blast.  He had a hard time finding the yellow egg hidden in the lemon tree branches.

After the hunt was over and all the eggs were found, we proceeded to egg dying.   I am vegan and the kid does not eat eggs so I bought fake eggs that can be dyed.  We tried the vinegar type dye first but it didn't work too well so we used the dye that came with the eggs.  That worked really well.

After some food and a break, we headed out to a Easter street fair.  It was cute.  There were booths, We bought a twirly thing for the garden.  We looked at the animals in the petting zoo. There was a cute little Easter parade with an Easter Bunny.  Then we walked by the face painting booth and saw they do hair painting.  The kid wanted to get his hair painted blue and white.  So, we stood in line for an hour to get his hair painted.  Then it was too late to get food or do anything else but go home.

We had no special dinner because it was too late to go to the supermarket and we were supposed to go yesterday.  We did not.  We did not go today.  We have so little food.  Oh, well, it will all work out.

Until tomorrow...
